DESCRIPTION: EPW - James Hatton, London, silver fusee pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement and helical hairspring, 57mm, silver OF pair cases bearing London hallmarks for 1831, incuse script "J W" for casemaker John West, outer containing papers for Philadelphia watchmakers John Fries and J. Menzies, cream colored enamel dial, KWKS, capped spring detent escapement, free-sprung balance with helical hairspring, white metal (likely platinum) timing weights, and diamond endstone, balance cock with grotesque mask, gilt mvt, s#356.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound and will tick briefly with a twist, overhaul needed, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, mvt with play at hinge, missing barrel arbor escutcheon as evidenced by an adjacent tapped hole and a pin hole in main plate, plates with some scattered scratches and fine scratches; dial with hl between center of seconds-register and 3; fine hands, hour and minute of somewhat different color; outer case shows light wear, few small nicks, no dents, button latch good; inner case shows medium wear, dent to edge at 2:30, some dings and nicks to rear, slot for release of mvt latch is notably wider than necessary for the present mvt's latch; bow pivots freely; domed glass bull’s-eye crystal with many scratches and abrasions.
